I really enjoyed my talk with my super-duper buddy Maya. I was nervous at first because we had only talked one other time but after we asked a couple of questions we started to get into a flowing conversation. At first, we talked about what we want to do in the future. We both obviously said we want to graduate college. We both want to go into parts of the medical field. Maya said she wanted to become an orthodontist and eventually live by the water. Both of us said we wanted to own our own homes and have dogs. We talked about how our schools have changed because of the coronavirus. Maya’s school does shorten days with only half their schedule while my school has stuck mostly to the same schedule with slightly shorter classes. Maya and I also discussed the books we recently read and how we both want to read more for pleasure and less for school. The book she read was “The Wand, The Witch, and the Wardrobe”. She started it at the beginning of quarantine when she was bored but couldn’t finish it. Eventually, we got into the topic of what happened on January 6th and how we felt about it. I loved talking with Maya it was really nice talking to someone new.

Hi I’m Rhyan Hurns. I am a junior(16) at Groves High School. I live in Southfield, Michigan but I used to live in Detroit and Huntington Woods. I play high school and club volleyball and have played for six years. I have an older sister who is a freshman in college and a younger brother who is in tenth grade. I have a dog named Bailey who is a shih tzu-terrier mix. My mom and dad work in education which has shaped a huge part of who I am. It has made me a more educated, curious and self-reliant person. Being the middle child also made me want to be my own person. Especially since both my siblings are a lot more outgoing than I am. Being quieter makes it harder for me to stand out and express myself and my own personality.

One of my strengths is my observation and listening skills. Ironically being quiet helps me with being good at listening to people’s problems. This can lead to me not asking for help when I need it and trying to fix it on my own.

My future aspirations are getting into a college with the program that I am interested in.I want to do what I love for the rest of my life which is becoming a physical therapist. I also want to travel the world and take pictures.
